Living in Canada

  The first day I arrived to Canada, I am impressed by Canada’s advanced economy, multicultural society, beautiful environment, as well as people’s kindness, passion and wisdom. The only thing made me sad was I can’t communicate with other people. I realized that it is extremely important for me to study English. China and Canada have many different aspects in culture. Today I want to talk about the different education between China and Canada.

     First, students in Canada are under less pressure than students in China. In China, most high school students spend more than 10 hours studying everyday with some students studying even longer, usually from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

    Second, in Canada, teachers use diversified teaching methods in class, like role playing, and group work. In China we rarely use these kinds of pedagogies. Most of the time teachers are lecturing and students are busy taking notes.

    Third, teachers give students a lot of handouts in Canadian classes. Maybe this is the reason why students needn’t take notes here. Everything is on the handouts. In China we depend more on the course books and some exercise books.

    Even though learning English is a big challenge for me, I enjoy my school life in Canada. Here is no fierce competition, and I like the easy atmosphere in class.

The Main Quality to Success

       What is the main quality a person must have in order to be successful in life? In my opinion, insistence, which can help us reject to miss a beat, is the most important element of success. Without insistence, the inventors couldn’t have so many inventions to us. As an example people usually use is when Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, he tried over 2,000 experiments before he got it to work. Through the experience of Edison, I realized that the way to success always have a lot of obstacles. When we meet problems, we should insist on solving the problems, and overcome those difficulties. I believe that if we have this kind of spirit, we will achieve success.

My Definition of Success

      What is success? It is what everyone is longing for. Sometimes success would be rather simple. Winning a game is success; getting a high grade in exam is success. However, as people were dissatisfied with the status, success becomes very complicated. Is fortune success? Is the person who has a lot of money success? No, I don’t think so. I believe success is the hope and insistence.  First, people should always have a dream, life there is hope. Even if it’s not close within reach, do not give up or settle with reality. On the way to success must have a lot of difficulties, don’t give up, and keep going, insistence will help us overcome obstacles, and finally achieve success.
      I have a short-term goal which is pass the IELTS (get 6 point for each one). For me, it’s very difficult to get 6 point, but I never give up my English study, and I believe that marks will improve if effort is constant. So, believe in hopes, believe in ourselves, everyone of us can make a successful life. Wish you all stay on successful!

Builing Up Vocabulary

     Vocabulary is one of the most important part in English learning. I have experience increasing my vocabulary, and I would like to share my experience with you guys. First, reading is the best way to increase vocabulary, insisted on reading English book everyday. I read the novel for 30 minutes everyday which is named '451 Fahrenheit'. When I read, I always find many words I don't knew. If I have enough time, I will check dictionary, and remember what the meaning it is. I think it's very useful to help me increase my vocabulary. Second, when I hang out with my friends, I like to look the billboard, when I see a word I have never seen before, I'll guess the meaning from the context of the situation, or check dictionary, and remember it. Hello Everyone

       Hello everyone,  I am Janet, I came from China, and I have been living in Calgary for

one year. I came to Calgary because my family lives here, and I want to live with them.
That's why I'm taking the English program. I like exercise in my free time. I go to the gym three times a week. I also like hiking, I have been to Banff, Waterton and Lake Louise to go hiking. I love dogs, and I have a dog which is a bull terrier. His name is Niuniu (it's a nick name for little boy in China). He is two years old. He brings me much fun. Here are three pictures of him, I hope you guys will like him.
